Who will need to upgrade?
All customers who are currently using a self-service plan for the API or Cards.

When does this happen?
It will be live on April 1, 2017.

What will happen?
If you are paying for the product you will be automatically upgraded on April 1, 2017 to the new API or Cards plan. Your service will continue without interruption.

If you are a free user of the API, you will need to log into app and upgrade to the new API plan. If you do not upgrade, on April 17, 2017 free API access will be reduced to 100 Embed URLs, 100 Extract URLs and 250 Display URLs a month.

We will do blackout tests for free API users on April 5th and 10th at 11AM PST where we will block free API keys for 30 minutes to ensure that all developers are made aware of these changes.

You may also log into http://app.embed.ly to upgrade prior to April 1, 2017.

Will you be providing a free option?
Yes, the Cards product will continue to have a free Embedly branded option, here.

Will you be grandfathering existing self-service accounts?
No, we will require everyone to move to the new API or Cards plan.

Will the API have a free option?

No, you will need to move to our paid API Plan for $99/mo.

How are the new plans different?

We are bundling all API products (Embed, Extract, Display, Video) into one plan. The Cards product will also be available as a Paid plan for branding or customizations. You can continue to use Branded cards for free, here.

Are there any billing changes?

Yes, we will charge the plan base fee at the 1st of each month. This will make your billing period the 1st - last day of each month.

Any additional usage charges for the previous month will be assessed a few days into each month. i.e. January additional usage charges will be assessed in February.

The Embed/oEmbed API will now have each URL requested count towards billing usage.
